2007 Belmont Review
The last time a
filly won the Belmont Stakes was in 1905, and her name was Tanya.
Until June 9, 2007, that is, when Rags To Riches nosed out favorite Curlin
in a thrilling stretch drive that was set up by a sluggish initial pace.
Curlin was doing the chasing, as in the Preakness (against Street Sense),
and appeared to put his nose in front about 90 yards from home, but Rags
To Riches immediately fought back to dig in and claim victory.
Several lengths back of the top two, Tiago finished third, and Hard Spun
held on for fourth. With the Belmont win by Rags To Riches, Todd
Pletcher captures his first Triple Crown win as a trainer.
